Sadly, I can't say I'm shocked about the school shooting (appallingly, the 18th one since January 1, 2018). What I can say is that I'm shocked and disappointed that our country has still not put the lives of the innocent over the wishes and profits off the NRA.
To say I'm shocked about another mass shooting would only give the impression our country has taken massive, far-reaching action to halt this type of terrorism. We don't get to do that. None of us gets to ease our mind with the assurance we're changing the culture. We're not. Not enough has been done. Until we can say no children die from gunshot wounds at school or no crowded malls, rallies, or events are used for rage-fueled firing sprees, no one gets to say we've done enough to prevent and protect our country's innocents. No one.
And that means not one of us is safe. And yet, that doesn't ignite a fury in all of us to take action.
